CancerKids of Marengo

The CK/5k is a fun run/walk to help raise money for families in our community and also help support Childhood Cancer organizations. The first year, 2014, CancerKids hosted a 5k was to support two local families from Marengo; Sean Keller who was diagnosed with Leukemia and Lucas Castillo who was diagnosed with Brain Cancer. Three individuals from the community came together and decided a fun 5k run/walk would be a great way to bring awareness to Childhood Cancer as well as help offset the cost of bills for both families. All money raised from the event was split into thirds; each family received one third and the remaining money was split in half and was given to an organization of the family's choosing, in honor of each the Hero's. The first year, over 230 participants ran and almost 300 shirts were sold. The run was so successful, that those three individuals decided to incorporate, become a board, set up a fantastic committee, and host a run annually. Each year in September(Childhood Cancer Awareness Month), with the amazing help from sponsors, the run will be held in honor of two Hero's from McHenry County.

Meet the two Warrior's the Ck5k will have the honor of running for in 2016:
